Common questions

After-hours pharmacy FAQs

What should I do if I run out of my prescription at night?+

For life-threatening issues call 000. Otherwise, call Nurse On Call on 1300 60 60 24 or the After Hours GP Helpline on 1800 022 222. If the medicine is essential and you cannot see a doctor, a 24-hour or late-night pharmacy may be able to help with an emergency supply.

Can Milawa Pharmacy deliver an urgent script after hours?+

Our local delivery service runs during business hours only. If you have an urgent need after hours, the best option is to visit a 24-hour pharmacy or call the health lines listed above. You can still submit a prescription request online and we will action it first thing in the morning.

How do I reach the pharmacist for an urgent question?+

Call the pharmacy on 03 5719 3701. If the shop is closed, follow the recorded instructions to leave a message for the on-call pharmacist. Please reserve this for genuine urgent matters.

What counts as a medicine emergency?+

A medicine emergency includes suspected overdose, taking the wrong medicine, a severe allergic reaction, or a child accessing medicine. For these, call 000 or the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26 immediately.

Can I return unwanted or expired medicine after hours?+

No — the Return Unwanted Medicines program must be handled inside the pharmacy during opening hours. Keep medicines out of reach of children and bring them in on our next business day.

Do I need a prescription for an after-hours pharmacy?+

Yes. Prescription medicines require a valid Australian prescription. In a genuine emergency, a pharmacist can sometimes supply a small interim supply without a new prescription, but this is limited by law and not available for all medicines.

Need a repeat before the weekend?

Submit your prescription request online and we'll have it ready for collection or local delivery on our next business day.
